The Healthy & Fit Magazine Expo is finally hereIt took Harry Potter seven long books to get rid of HE-WHO-SHALL-NOT-BE-NAMED. Lord Voldemort didn’t go easily, either. It took me 11 hours to take in that book and I’m still smiling from the ending. For months now, the staff at Healthy & Fit Magazine has been manning the phones, beating the pavement and making deals to create an EVENT-THAT-SHALL-BE-NAMED. We called it The Healthy & Fit Magazine Expo (catchy, isn’t it?), and I’m smiling at what we’ve put together for anyone who is in the mid-Michigan area. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 29, The Healthy & Fit Magazine Expo is set to roll. We have a demonstration stage that is featuring some of the trendiest and most effective fitness ideas in the country. We have pitching netting, a rock wall and the famous Blues Cruiser, that can tell you just how healthy you really are. Also at the expo, we have more than 90 of the best health-related business and services that are in the area. Take a look at page 18 to learn who is going to attend and you’ll be amazed at how many businesses are here to assist you. The Healthy & Fit Magazine Expo is free to anyone who wishes to attend. Saturday evening there is even a pasta dinner (which has a charge) and motivational speaker (another freebie!), Dick Beardsley at 6:15 p.m. Runners who plan on taking to the streets of Lansing the following morning as part of The Capital City 1/2 Marathon, and anyone else who has an interest in running and perseverance, will love Beardsley’s talk. Check out page 26 for more about him. What’s more, Spartan athletes from many of the varsity sports on campus will be on hand, not only to sign autographs, but to demonstrate how they play their games. Think baseball and softball players, hockey players, field hockey players and even basketball players are scheduled to appear. Pretty cool, eh? Wait, though, there’s more. What adds to the value of this event is that it’s part of a weekend full of health and fitness related activities. Not only is The Healthy & Fit Magazine Expo ready to roll on Saturday, so are cyclists—amateur and club riders alike—who want to take to the city streets as part of the Fat Tire Crit. If that’s not enough, there’s a cyclocross race, and a 5K race, for kids, that will also take place. Check out pages 22 and 24 for more about this. And then on Sunday, Sept. 30, there’s the half marathon. Check page 20 for information about that. Wow. That’s a lot, isn’t it? None of this was possible without the help of some dedicated individuals. Eric Hart and his crew at The Lansing Center have been great. Erik Larsen of Impression 5 Science Museum, and his CCRR committee have been of great value, too. Kurt Munson and Brian Jones at Playmakers—you guys continue to lead the fitness charge. Mike Price and John Young at the Greater Lansing Sports Authority and the City of Lansing have also been very helpful. And of course, where would any of the expo be without the diligence, persistence and drive of the namesake of the legendary Kathy Kissman Consulting. Come out to our first expo. Come ready to play. Come ready to work out. Come ready to learn. It doesn’t matter what you wear or how you look, just come on out. It’s free. It’s going to be a great time. It’s going to be some healthy and fit magic. |
