Building healthy habits

It’s never too late to start a healthy lifestyle. The key to success is being patient. Rushing the task will only cause stress and can lead to failure. If you find yourself struggling when it comes to committing to your lifestyle goals, try my helpful tips:

Focus on one task at a time

Lifestyle changes are a process that requires time and commitment.  Therefore, don’t overwhelm yourself with several goals at once. Instead, focus on one task at a time. This will allow you to move at your own pace without feeling defeated. For example, if you struggle with getting your daily intake of water each day, leave a bottle of water next to your bed and try drinking at least eight ounces of it upon rising tomorrow morning.

Be patient

There’s no need to hurry the process. It’s important to set realistic goals and give yourself time. Better yet, envision the process of building healthier habits as your personal health plan, broken-up into several chapters that represent the days of your life. The best part, you are in charge of each chapter!

Plan for success

Keep a positive mindset and incorporate practices that will help keep you on track.  For example, prior to making a trip to the market, create a grocery list and stick to it!  This will allow you to stay within your budget and give you a motivated plan!

Savor the small victories

Each time you hit a milestone, take a time-out to be your own cheerleader.  Listen to your inner voice, it will guide you and let you know when it’s time to push yourself a little further. Once again, remember to celebrate yourself, because you are AWESOME!

Enjoy the journey

Have fun and don’t get caught up worrying about the outcome. I challenge you to incorporate daily positive behaviors to boost your spirit. Some of my favorites include reading inspirational poems and quotes, treating myself to an at-home facial and listening to cheerful and upbeat music.
