RiverView Fitness Center – CHAMPIONS Program
RiverView Fitness Center, a division of Lansing’s Old Town Medical Arts Center, is offering an exciting new program for high school athletes called the CHAMPIONS Program. Kristine Kotula, fitness director of RiverView, explained more about the program.
What is RiverView Fitness Center?
RiverView Fitness Center, open from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., features cardio and weight training in the gym for singles, families, and everyone in-between. The Center also offers group classes in tai chi, pilates, yoga, Zumba (a cross between Latin and American dance), guided meditation, and more.
What is the CHAMPIONS Program and who is it for?
The new CHAMPIONS Program is open to high school students, beginning 9th grade through 12th grade, in the fall. CHAMPIONS is the acronym for:
-Conditioning
-Health
-Agility
-Muscle
-Power
-Intensity
-Optimize
-Nutrition
-Stamina
The program is designed to keep high school athletes in shape during the off-season. Many young athletes do not keep up with their fitness routine, or even stop working out “cold turkey,” during the summer months. This makes it difficult to jump back into practice when the season starts again. Participation in the CHAMPIONS Program gives students the opportunity to stay agile for their sport.
What is the duration of the program?
It is an 8-week program beginning July 13 and ending September 4th.
Is there a cost associated with the program?
The entire 8-week program is only $65 per athlete. It is $55 per person if five or more students sign up together.
How often will participants meet?
Participants meet up to three times per week, but RiverView staff can easily work around the student’s individual schedule.
Are there different age groups?
Participants are not organized by age groups, but are instead divided by sport.
Is the program designed for students to work out on their own, or is it a class environment?
It is up to the student if they want individualized one-on-one training or would rather work out in a small group with friends or team members. Each workout is designed for each athlete’s specific sport of choice, focusing on strengthening, flexibility, and prevention of injuries. Young athletes are taught the proper form, body mechanics and breathing skills. Learning these skills now will make exercising much easier throughout their life.
How do you register?
Register by calling 517-485-3638. RiverView staff is prepared to work around individual schedules. Cost breaks can be negotiated, as well, if students cannot attend all 8 weeks.
Is there anything else you would like to add about the program?
We love sports training at RiverView and are very excited about the CHAMPIONS Program.
