A Clients Success Story at The Capital City River Run

I am always glad to hear when my clients are doing well. Weather it is losing body fat, changing their eating habits, or in this case, finishing a race breaking their personal best. Last weekend the Capital City River Run took place in downtown Lansing with over hundreds of participants. It is a great race that anyone can get involved in, regardless of fitness level.

I have been preaching for years that runners focus too much on getting their miles in, and don’t spend enough time weight training, performing interval work, and increasing mobility and stability of certain joints. I strongly believe that if runners decrease the miles that they run, and increase their volume in these other areas of training they will run faster, have a better VO2 max, and reduce the risk of injury dramatically.

I have a few clients who did just that. Samantha Smith is a regular Boot Camp attendee, and is a part of our Auto Owners Weight Loss Challenge. Jen Hailey also attends my Boot Camps, and has been working with me on an individual basis for over a year now. They decreased the number of miles that ran, performed more weight training CORRECTLY, did high intensity interval work 2-3 times per week via other modalities than running, and took care of their joints. In the end, they had less chronic pain and injuries, felt stronger than ever, had less body fat than before, and yes, they broke their personal records!

The reason that I wanted to share this with you all is because there is a better way to train for a 5k, ½ marathons, or even a marathon. I soon will be putting on a class that outlines exactly how to become a better runner without running as much as you are now! Yes, you can run faster without running more.
