Went there, signed up, got the T-shirt
Actually, I chose a red Playmakers tank top at Sunday’s kick off event for the summer training session sponsored by Team Playmakers.
Before the meeting I was expecting to walk in, sign up, sit through a meeting and then be sent on my way to fend for myself, besides the formal group runs. But as you know from my shoe fitting experience, Playmakers has a way of surprising me.
As soon as I walked in the door I felt motivated. There was a large amount of staff there to answer my questions and walk me through the process of signing up step by step. Each time I ran into a new staff member they introduced themselves and not only asked my name but talked to me about what my goals were for the program.
I felt like I had a whole team of runner’s not only thinking I could reach my goal, but cheering me on and giving me all the information they had on how to be a successful runner. It wasn’t just me either, others I talked to around me felt like their goal would soon be a reality before the informational meeting about the training had even started.
The motivation came wrapped up in a shiny binder too. A binder filled with information to keep me on track with my goal of a 5K. Included where running routes, clinic information, race events, nutrition tips, stretching and injury prevention and other contacts and resources.
Also included was my eight week training schedule, with the last day of the last week being a 5K race. For the week ahead I would be running 1.5 miles on Tuesday, another 1.5 miles on Thursday, walking 30 to 60 minutes on Saturday and running another 1.5 miles on Sunday.
I left the meeting feeling positive, instead of nervous, about the goal I’d set for myself. I’ve got right shoes so all that’s left now is to hit the road running, while following my training schedule of course.
So now that I’ve gone to Playmakers, signed up and got my tank top….
5K here I come.
