MTB Racing
Second place!
No kidding. I couldn't believe it, either. It was my first race. I had no idea what I was doing, but man, did I have fun. I managed to get second place in the clysdale beginner division at the Ft. Custer Stampede. This is a mountain bike race held at the Ft. Custer Recreation Area near Battle Creek. I learned a lot of things to pass on to newbie bikers. I thought I'd list them hereāeven though I'd rather talk about my second place finish. (My friend, Cam, nabbed third in his division. Good job, Cam!)
My observations and tips:
1. Bring a lot of water and some food for after the race. (I ran out and had to scrounge.)
2. Bring suntan lotion. (I'm burned.)
3. Don't be afraid to walk your bikes up hills. Everyone does it!
4. Make sure your bike is tuned up and ready.
5. Be ready to fall. I did. Apparently after the race my teeth were caked with dirt. Funny, huh?
Yeah. Second place funny!
